October 31, 2008--Andor Technology (Belfast, Northern Ireland), a provider of scientific imaging and spectroscopy solutions, announced the successful outcome of a collaboration with fiber-optic components company Bayspec (Fremont, CA) on a new portable spectroscopic instrument that allows up to three times greater collection efficiency than standard Czerny-Turner spectrographs.

The new nstrument is dedicated to 1064nm Raman spectroscopy and uses the Andor iDus InGaAs detector array camera and Bayspec's high-throughput Volume Phase Holographic Gratings (VPHG) spectrograph, offering price/performance benefits while boasting thermo-electric (TE) detector cooling down to -85ºC, USB2.0 plug-and-play connectivity, F/1.8 aperture, and spectral resolution of 8/cm alongside with 3000/cm spectral coverage.

Antoine Varagnat, market development manager within Andor Technology, said, "The combination of expertise in this dedicated system has already raised great interest and will make 1064nm Raman even more powerful and accessible to the research community and the industry".
