Olympus Offers Fast, Easy Special Reflectivity Measurements For Lens Design and Manufacturing

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., January 25, 2011 – Olympus, a world leader in industrial measuring and inspection systems, now offers a spectral reflectivity measurement system for lens manufacturing. The system is designed for use with lenses, prisms, flat glass, plastics and electronic components designed and produced by optical manufacturers. Fast and simple to use, the USPM-RU III spectral reflectivity measurement system provides highly repeatable measurements in seconds.

Originally invented for Olympus Corporation's own world-renowned lens fabrication processes, the system allows users to make highly accurate and repeatable measurements quickly and less expensively. While other systems require users to take costly steps in order to prevent rear surface reflection, the USPM-RU III system enhances quality control and R&D projects by providing highly accurate reflectivity measurements without the need for backside coating. Spherical, aspherical, flat and other surfaces can be accommodated without special costly or time-consuming sample preparation.

The fast and easy-to-use system provides reflectivity measurements for wavelengths ranging from 380 – 780nm. Object color can be measured based on spectrophotometric colorimetry determined from prismatic reflectivity.
