Labsphere cooperates with Chinese lighting center on LED measurement

Aug. 18, 2011
North Sutton, NH--Photometric test and measurement company Labsphere is cooperating with National Lighting Test Centre in China on LED measurement.

North Sutton, NH--Labsphere, a Halma company that manufactures radiometric and photometric test and measurement products for the aerospace, electronic imaging, light-emitting diode (LED), lighting, imaging, and medical optics industries, signed a cooperation agreement with National Lighting Test Centre (Shanghai, China) on LED measurement. The partnership was facilitated by Labsphere distributor Shanghai Alpha Lighting Equipment Testing and is centered on Labsphere's Thermal/Optical/Electrical LED Measurement System called TOCS.

The National Lighting Test Centre’s National Luminaries Quality Supervision Testing Centre is the first professional international laboratory for lighting equipment in China. In the agreement, Labsphere’s TOCS will be used in conjunction with the center’s patent (Measurement Devices for LED Forward Voltage Drop and Junction Temperature Curve, Patent No.: ZL2009 2 0212653.0) to correlate voltage drop with junction temperature. In addition, the companies have agreed to actively share information pertaining to developing lighting trends and to cooperate in the launch of academic communications and activities.

The Labsphere LED TOCS measures optical properties as a function of temperature and operating current using a single instrument, adhering to the IESNA (Illuminating Engineering Society of North America) LM-79 standard to produce accurate and repeatable LED measurement results. TOCS systems are based on integrating sphere technology and consist of an integrating sphere (50 to 300 cm in size), high-resolution CCD spectrometer, light source, power supply, and proprietary Labsphere TOCS software.
