Photon Kinetics far-field scanner characterizes singlemode fibers over 500 to 1700 nm
The 2201-3 Far Field Scanner characterizes singlemode fibers over the wavelength range of 500 to 1700 nm. It measures mode field diameter and effective area with 0.09° resolution and 75 dB dynamic range. It can be fitted with various standard or special wavelength internal light sources, and support for external sources is available.

PRESS RELEASE
Far Field Scanner Enables Broadband Fiber Characterization
Los Angeles, California, March 8, 2011 – Photon Kinetics, the world’s leading provider of measurement systems for optical fiber and cable manufacturers, announced at OFC/NFOEC 2011 the availability of the industry’s first broadband far field scanner for the measurement of single-mode fiber mode field diameter and effective area. The 2201-3 Far Field Scanner is capable of characterizing fibers over the wavelength range of 500 to 1700 nm in a single unit.
The 2201-3 configuration joins previously released single-window configurations of the 2201 designed for 500 to 1000 nm or 900-1700 nm measurements. All three configurations are capable of 0.09 degree resolution and 75 dB dynamic range, enabling developers and manufacturers of both telecom and specialty single-mode fibers to obtain laboratory quality measurements from an automated, production friendly test platform.
The 2201 can be fitted with a wide range of standard or special wavelength internal light sources. Custom internal sources are also available, as is support for external sources, such as tunable lasers.
