December 7, 2005, Monmouth Junction, NJ--Innovative Photonic Solutions (IPS), a photonics company specializing in high performance semiconductor light source development, has been selected by a large government prime contractor to develop an ultrastable, tunable laser system that will be integrated into an advanced terahertz spectrometer currently under development.

According to the company, IPS will leverage proprietary spectrum stabilization technology to provide ultrastable single frequency lasers that will be used for the spectrometer. The fully integrated spectrometer will enable researchers to obtain spectral characteristics in the terahertz band for a wide variety of materials.

"The IPS spectrum stabilized laser technology enables the creation of extremely stable single frequency lasers that don't require sophisticated temperature and drive control electronics to keep the lasers from drifting," said John Connolly, president of IPS. "This unique feature, along with the extraordinarily long coherence length and narrow spectral linewidth of the lasers, make them ideal for high resolution spectroscopy applications."
