The OS4000 is a single-frequency, narrow-linewidth, low noise solid-state laser system designed for use in precision spectroscopy and the analysis/detection of molecules, clusters, or ions. It may also be used as a flexible light source for the generation of test radiation in metrology and telecommunications.

Surface-mountable LEDs
The new Platypus LEDs look and behave like traditional radial leaded lensed LEDs yet have "duck feet" electrical contacts, making them surface-mountable and able to be incorporated directly onto a circuit board. Applications include control board indicators, moving message or RGB signs, automotive exterior body lighting, flexible boards, indicator lights, and LCD backlights. The LEDs are available in lens styles from T-1 (3-mm diameter) to T-2.5 (8-mm diameter). All models incorporate AlInGaP and InGaN chip technologies and are available in several different colors.

PhotonX Application Development Platform
The new PhotonX Application Development Platform includes the PhotonX-8 optical switch, an intelligent processor board, a real-time operating system, and a full software suite, incorporating a new applications programming interface. This allows for telecommunications-equipment providers to accelerate the development of all-optical switches and potentially shorten development time by up to several months.

Compact 200-mJ Nd:YAG laser
The Gemini PIV 200 is a compact, dual-head laser designed for air and water flow PIV. The laser produces 200 mJ at 532 nm and operates at a maximum repetition rate of 15 Hz per head. Measuring 16.63 x 8.25 x 3.38 in. and weighing 14 lb. its small size allows for greater set-up and operational flexibility.

Fiberoptic mechanical switch
A new compact 1 x 2 fiberoptic mechanical switch offers less than 0.35-dB typical insertion loss and less than 0.50-dB maximum insertion loss. Measuring 40 x 15.5 x 9.5 mm, the switch was designed for use in configurable optical add/drop multiplexers, optical crossconnect systems, and optical-system performance monitoring and fault-protection applications. The switch is optically passive and has internal latching mechanisms to preserve the optical path even after power loss.

Double fiberoptic cable jacket
The new GX-Series Subgrouping fiberoptic cable is double jacketed for chemical resistance in harsh environments and will not degrade even with continuous long-term exposure to volatile chemicals such as fuels, oils, liquids, cleaning agents, and acids. It consists of a PVC inner-cable jacket and an outer fluoropolymer cable jacket. The fiber count for this cable can range from 2 to 144 optical fibers in a single cable jacket. The cable can mix single- and multimode optical fibers within a single cable.

Broadband anti-reflection coating
The /081 multilayer dielectric antireflection coating has an average reflectance of less than 0.75 from 350 to 700 nm, extending 100 nm further than traditional broadband dielectric coatings. The new coating is designed for medical applications involving multiple laser sources. It can be applied to uncoated lenses, prisms, windows, and other optical elements.

Surface measurement instrument
The Surface Measurement Instrument (SMI) is a high-speed surface topography instrument that characterizes spherical, toric, and aspheric surfaces. Designed to allow one-button operation by unskilled operators, the SMI does not require the use of floating optical tables or other vibration isolation. The instrument has 0.1-µm surface map accuracy, 3-µm radius accuracy, and less than 10-s cycle time. The SMI compares the wavefront reflected from the surface to that expected from a perfect sphere. The surface deviation is expressed in the form of characteristic circular functions called the Zernike polynomials.
