The Holomapper, a metrology instrument developed by ERIM International (Ann Arbor, MI) that uses holographic imaging techniques to perform 3-D precision-parts measurements, was introduced last month at the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Advanced Productivity Exposition (Detroit, MI). Unlike traditional measurement tools that force users to sacrifice either area, speed, or resolution, Holomapper offers accurate measurements of the ¥axis (depth) with a resolution of 0.5 µm and an image-acquisition and formation time of four minutes.
