Westinghouse and MetroLaser to develo¥stress metrology systems
The Westinghouse Savannah River Site (Aiken, SC) and MetroLaser Inc. (Irvine, CA) have signed a cooperative research and development agreement to develo¥an optical metrology system for noncontact residual stress measurements. The laser-based instrument will combine speckle interferometry with laser-annealing techniques to permit in situ stress inspection. The initial design work was funded by a Small Business Technology Transfer grant from the Office of Naval Research. Under the terms of the two-year agreement, the two companies will design, build, test, and analyze the performance of a prototype residual-stress measurement system.
