Eye-safe laser glass

Aug. 1, 1996
An erbium-doped glass, QX/ER, is designed as a laser material that can be used for eye-safe lasers in lidar and laser-ranging applications. Miniature lasers made from this material can be made to emit at 1.54 µm and can be Q-switched. The company demonstrated 5-mJ pulses with 60-ns pulsewidths at 15 H¥using a rotating-prism Q-switch from such a laser.
