Two optical wavelength meters, the WA-1600 and WA-1100 Wavemeter, are designed for precise characterization of components used in wavelength-division multiplexing. The systems use Michelson-interferometer-based technology to determine the wavelength of a test laser by comparing its interference fringe pattern with that of a built-in HeNe laser standard. The absolute wavelength accuracy is ۪.2 ppm. The instruments simultaneously measure total optical power and monitor changes in the wavelength or power of an optical signal as a function of time.
