PennWell Corporation and Breault Research Organization have partnered to bring the investment community a conference designed to highlight opportunities in optics technologies and applications. Sponsored by Laser Focus World and Optics Report, "The Photon Forum" will be held at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort (Tucson, AZ), April 5-7, 2004.

The Photon Forum will cover two broad areas: bio-optics, which encompasses optics applications in biotechnology, medical diagnostic and therapeutic applications, and other areas of the life sciences; and defense and security, which includes such photonic applications as imaging, chemical and biological sensing, and biometrics. Specific topics to be covered include drug discovery, proteomics, clinical diagnostics, vision technologies, noninvasive surgery, telemedicine, and other imaging technologies.

"There is not another conference focused on opportunities in all of these areas, and there is increasing overlap between optics, the biosciences, and defense technologies," said Harry George, managing partner of Solstice Capital, a U.S. venture capital firm. "Hearing CTOs and senior researchers tell their stories will be helpful in assimilating all of this change."
