September 17, 2007, Bothell, WA--SPIE, the international society advancing an interdisciplinary approach to the science and application of light, has elected Kathleen Perkins, CEO of Breault Research Organization (Tuscon, AZ) to the organization's international Board of Directors for a three-year term beginning in 2008. The announcement was made at the annual SPIE Optics + Photonics meeting in San Diego (see related story here).

"It is very good to have Kathleen on the SPIE Board, and it bodes well for the future of optics internationally," said long-time SPIE member and University of Arizona College of Optical Science dean, Dr. James Wyant. "Kathleen can make important contributions for an optics community she well understands."

Perkins has been CEO for Breault Research Organization since 2003 when she also began to take on governance issues for SPIE as a member of the organization's Finance Committee. She founded the highly regarded OpticsReport in 1999, and has been involved in optical sciences ventures in Arizona for 15 years.

"I look forward to helping the optical science community make bridges to increase general understanding of what the industry does, how important it is to the future, and what optical science ventures can mean for capital development in today's challenging markets," Perkins said. "I believe we can help assure that every optical engineer finds an opportunity to make a difference for science, industry, and the world-at-large."
