Munich, Germany--A new permanent exposition about laser technology has been opened at the Deutsches Museum in Munich. It shows and explains the laser and its practical applications as a tool. The new exhibit--named Light as a Tool-- is partnered with the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung in Ditzingen.

The exhibit is located next to other engineering applications on the ground floor of the Deutsches Museum. The presentation is intended to illustrate that laser technology has now conquered all kinds of application fields and that we encounter it in everyday life, not only at the supermarket checkout.

In addition to the description of the laser and its evolution, the exhibit gives examples of its practical use. In the three divisionsinformation, manufacturing and medicinethe exhibit shows the fascinating possibilities of the laser.

Light as a Tool is a donation of the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung. Since 2000 the Foundation encourages the application of laser technology with an international Innovation Prize and a Research prize. A number of other institutes and companies supported this exposition.
