January 16, 2006, Widnes, Cheshire, England--In response to the "phenomenal success" of its line of color change and imaging products, Sherwood Technology has changed its name to DataLase--the name of the company's process that uses a combination of color change chemistry and low power laser light for a wide range of applications, (see "Laser coding turns food packages into miniature billboards," Laser Focus World, October 2004). The move coincides with the opening of a new US facility in Q1 2006.
This move is a precursor to the launch of a market-ready product portfolio in 2006. DataLase's existing coding and marking solution will be branded as DataLase PACKMARK. DataLase will also be rebranding its existing portfolio of security applications. The DigiVU range of products will now be known as DataLase GUARDMARK, and will provide unique covert and overt image applications for document and brand protection. In addition, the company plans to launch additional products in 2006: DataLase CASEMARK , a cost effective label replacement solution for secondary packaging, DataLase FOODMARK for on-product marking of foodstuffs, and DataLase PHARMAMARK for on-tablet marking applications.
