OpVista Hires Cable Vets to Launch Optical Transport System
Irvine, CA., April 21, 2003. OpVista, Inc., a developer of optical transport technology for the deployment of "anything-on-demand" services in the cable industry, has hired Ron Foster as its VP of Sales and Marketing. Foster joins on the heels of the company hiring Gary Trimm as its President and CEO. The new management team will unveil a new optical transport product to cable providers at this year's Cable-Tec Expo in Philadelphia.
With more than 25 years experience in cable TV, telecom and datacomm, Foster has held executive marketing positions with communications and optics companies such as Scientific-Atlanta and Alloptic. Other positions included COO of Com21, Division General Manager with DSC Communications/Alcatel and CEO of Licom, developer of the industry's first SONET system. During his career he has successfully brought more than 20 communications products and systems to market.
"I recognized the highly technical nature of our system sales effort would require someone with an excellent mix of marketing, engineering, and economic skills," commented Trimm. "Ron knows the intricacies of the optical transport technology and how to match our products with our customer needs. OpVista is indeed fortunate to have someone of Ron's caliber take our products to the industry."
Trimm joined OpVista in January teaming up with Dr. Winston Way, the company's founder. Now Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Way will continue to lead the research and engineering efforts that have, to date, resulted in a comprehensive system design based on several key patents and a product ready for deployment.
Trimm has 15 years experience in the communications industry including Scientific-Atlanta where he served as President of the Subscriber Systems Division. He was also CEO of Compression Labs and most recently a consultant for new technology companies in the cable and telecom markets. Previous positions included both management and engineering assignments in the process control and factory automation industry, and as an Officer in the U.S. Navy Nuclear Submarine program.
OpVista's product, in which details will be released during the Cable-Tec Expo in Philadelphia May 12-14, offers major operational, technological, and cost advantages. It is a highly scalable transport system that eliminates cost-prohibitive entry barriers for large-scale VOD deployments. It minimizes cost of entry, but creates a growth path with a nearly unlimited maximum capacity.
