CLEO/QELS 2002 Conference To Honor Nobel Laureates

The Optical Society of America (OSA), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. Lasers & Electro-Optics Society (IEEE/LEOS) and the American Physical Society (APS), co-sponsors of the upcoming 22nd annual Conference on Lasers and Electro Optics and Quantum Electronics and Laser Science Conference (CLEO/QELS 2002), have announced that this year's conference will feature a special Nobel Tribute honoring their combined 95 Nobel Laureate members

The Optical Society of America (OSA), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. Lasers & Electro-Optics Society (IEEE/LEOS) and the American Physical Society (APS), co-sponsors of the upcoming 22nd annual Conference on Lasers and Electro Optics and Quantum Electronics and Laser Science Conference (CLEO/QELS 2002), have announced that this year's conference will feature a special Nobel Tribute honoring their combined 95 Nobel Laureate members.

The tribute will mark the passage of the Nobel Centennial by recognizing the contributions of these past and present Nobel Prize winners to the advancement of science and to the spectacular applications and future of the "science of light" in our daily lives.

In addition to a Nobel Exhibit, the May 2002 photonics event is scheduled to combine a cutting-edge educational curriculum with a dynamic, applications-oriented trade exhibition. Highlights of this year's academic conference will include the unveiling of significant scientific research from over 1,200 rigorously peer-reviewed papers and addresses at the plenary session by Wolfgang Ketterle, a 2001 Nobel recipient for Physics, Steven K. Korotky, Lucent Technologies and Philip Russell, Bath Univ.

Over 350 companies are expected to exhibit new photonics products and services on the showroom floor and share their technological innovations during high-energy interactive Hands-On Workshops; as well as through a special Launch Pad program, where new businesses are offered the outstanding opportunity to exhibit at no cost to them.

CLEO/QELS 2002 is where the first laser was introduced and the future of the laser, photonics and fiber components industries is continually established. It brings together the worldwide optics and photonics community of over 7,000 business leaders, scientists, engineers, educators and technicians representing numerous fields including communications, nanotechnology, medical, optical components, analytical instrumentation, aerospace, imaging, environmental monitoring, military equipment, precision manufacturing, and government R & D.

With its history of introducing Nobel quality research findings and technology to the world, CLEO/QELS 2002 is expected to attract international media attention and exhibitors representing such diverse industries as Biomed, Biotech, Fiber Optics, Data Storage, Data Communications, Telecommunications, and Semiconductors, among others.
