Austin, TX, September 26, 2002 -- BAE SYSTEMS recently received a $3.1 million contract from ATK Integrated Defense Company, Clearwater, Florida, for production of integrated laser warning receiver Systems. BAE SYSTEMS Integrated Defense Solutions, headquartered in Austin, Texas, will provide the laser warning receiver to ATK for a variety of U.S. military aircraft.

The laser warning electronics are integrated into ATK's AN/AAR-47 (V)2 Missile Warning Receiver. The AAR-47 is a common-housing, fully integrated missile and laser warning system and is slated to be installed on more than 3,000 U.S. Navy and Air Force helicopters and transport aircraft. Production deliveries are scheduled to begin this month and will extend to October 2003.

The BAE SYSTEMS laser warning receiver integrates sensor performance into the existing hardware of ATK's improved missile warning sensor. Laser warning technology alerts aircrews when laser-aided or laser-guided threats are present, allowing them to take appropriate counter actions.

"BAE SYSTEMS is extremely pleased to support the ATK and U.S. Navy team," said Evan Corwin, BAE SYSTEMS laser warning program manager. "Because of its affordability and advanced performance, many more service men and women will now be protected from laser-aided and laser-guided threats while on the battlefield."

Bob Swanson, president of BAE SYSTEMS Integrated Defense Solutions, said, "Our solution, in terms of performance, high-reliability, and low cost, is absolutely consistent with our vision as a Systems company innovating for a safer world." The laser warning receivers are produced in Austin, Texas, and assembled into the sensors by ATK Integrated Defense Company.

For more than 15 years, BAE SYSTEMS has engaged in advanced development programs for tactical laser warning receiver applications, providing innovative military laser warning Systems. The company has also licensed the technology for use in commercial Systems.
