Uniroyal Optoelectronics (UOE), a subsidiary of Uniroyal Technology Corp. announced a blue (450nm) light-emitting diode (LED) with a large-area chip. This new chip produces 60mW of power, making it one of the brightest LED devices in the high brightness LED marketplace. The product is available immediately for sampling by customers. The Company is also expanding its ultraviolet LED product line with the development of a UV large-area chip utilizing the same technology. The UV product is currently undergoing rigorous testing processes and is expected to produce power levels equivalent to that of the blue product. Further increases in power are anticipated from this design. The Company has applied for patent protection for certain elements of this chip design.
"The successful development of its high-power, large-area chip is another example of the rapid increases in product performance being achieved at UOE," said Robert L. Soran, President and COO of Uniroyal Technology. "At 60mW in power, this chip provides the lighting industry with tremendous opportunities for solid state lighting applications." UOE's large-area LED products will provide the lighting industry with innovative high-power light sources that can be used in a variety of applications, either as stand-alone emitters or incorporated into lighting systems.
