High Blantyre, Scotland, -- Peter Bordui has joined Intense Photonics as a non-executive director. With over 20 years' experience in optoelectronics, culminating in corporate managerial roles with JDS Uniphase, Bordui brings a wealth of experience of the international fibre optics components industry - including first-hand knowledge of establishing businesses based on new technology.
"Intense Photonics is one of a few suppliers who are able to integrate the active components needed for DWDM transmission", says Peter Bordui. "Its chip manufacturing process has tremendous potential for driving equipment costs down, in ways that make sense for either today's system architectures - such as multi-channel versions of established functions - or for next-generation systems."
"Peter Bordui's broad knowledge of the optoelectronics industry, which spans the range from engineering researcher to corporate management, is extremely useful in helping us to identify application areas where we can add most value, and in building awareness of our technology", adds David Lockwood, CEO of Intense Photonics.
A graduate of MIT, Bordui started his career in 1980 with Philips Laboratories in New York, where he worked on optoelectronic materials, helping develop a process which resulted in a new business unit. From there he joined the Siemens company Crystal Technology as Manager of R&D, progressing to VP and General Manager of its Materials Division.
He joined fiber optic giant JDS Uniphase in 1999, and became VP and General Manager of the organization's core Source Lasers business unit, before leaving in December 2001 to concentrate on consultancy. His other activities in this sphere include positions on the boards of the NASDAQ-quoted optoelectronic component company New Focus, and the Scottish start-up Photonic Materials - who make wafers for the optical components industry.
