Diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser achieves 55% conversion efficiency to the ultraviolet

May 1, 1995
The 1.064-µm pulsed output of a diode-bar-pumped Q-switched Nd:YAG laser has been frequency converted to the UV (355 nm) with a conversion efficiency better than 55%, according to researchers at Lambda Physik GmbH (Göttingen, Germany). The company believes this is the highest IR-to-UV conversion efficiency of a diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser obtained to date. The diode-pumped Nd:YAG device produces an average TEM00 output power exceeding 10 W at 1.064 µm at a repetition rate of 1 kHz.
