Crystal-growing furnace

June 1, 1995
Furnace designed for materials research laboratories allows growth of oxide, nonoxide, and metallic crystals. The system allows high vacuum, temperature control, oxygen-flow regulation, and viewing from a CCD video camera. Crucible sizes as large as 2.5 in. in diameter by 2.5 in. high can be used. Pull rates from 0.1 to 10.0 mm/h over a 10-in. length and seed rotation of 1 to 50 rpm are standard.
