On September 15 at the OSA Annual Meeting (Portland, OR), the Committee on Optical Science and Engineering (COSE) of the National Research Council (NRC) will be holding an all-day hearing on optics in health care and the life sciences. The NRC advises the federal government on science and technology, and the role of COSE is to assess the field of optics and submit recommendations for future development. The hearing is designed to familiarize COSE members with the state of the art for medical and biological optics and apprise them of promising directions for the future.
