The Cotco "eXtra Bright" series of LEDs uses Cree's X-Bright InGaN/SiC technology, which combines InGaN materials with a proprietary SiC substrate in a geometrically enhanced vertical chip structure to maximize total light extraction. The blue, blue-green, and pure green LEDs provide luminous intensities of up to 30,000 mcd. The "extra" white LED produces intensity of up to 12,000 mcd in a 5-mm package.

The AlignMeter simultaneously measures laser beam position and angular displacement for beams up to 8 mm in diameter. The instrument measures absolute angle and position with an accuracy of 1 mrad and 1 æm, respectively, without having to know the distance of the source from the sensor. The AlignMeter also measures absolute output power from 10 æW to 10 mW at wavelengths ranging from 350 nm to 1.06 æm. Applications include the alignment of gimbals, robotic arms, fibers, lasers, wafers, and optical components.

Machine vision lens

The 50LA is a 50-mm machine-vision lens, 2/3 in. format, with an F-stop of 2.8. Designed for the machine vision and factory automation industry, the lens is metal encased and shock absorbent. The iris range and focus operations are manual with locking screws, for applications with excessive vibration. The c-mount lens has a filter size of M25.5 P = 0.5, weighs 52 g, and has a q30.5-mm maximum diameter.

Excimer laser

The ThinFilmStar is an excimer laser for pulsed laser deposition (PLD) that ablates and deposits metal oxides and other materials. The proprietary laser design provides uniform and reproducible film properties for ferroelectrics, piezoelectrics, and smart materials. Utilizing decreased plasma shielding, due to fast pulse rise-time within a few nanoseconds, the laser uses less energy to obtain a homogeneous ablation plume.

Solid-state lasers

The model AOT-YVO-2QSP is a solid-state laser that produces pulses down to 800-ps duration. Part of the ACE Series of E-O Q-switched TEM00 lasers operating to 20 KHz, the new model offers >300 mW average power and 25 æJ/pulse. The lasers are intended as short-pulse synchronizable sources for industrial and research applications.

Dual-magnification optical system

The dual-magnification optical system provides the capability to switch magnifications under program control with no moving parts. The imaging system employs two separate optical paths with a 4:1 difference in magnification ratio. Each optical path includes its own dedicated camera.

Fiberoptic epoxy adhesive

Tra-Bond F113SC is a fiberoptic adhesive used for terminating all types of fiberoptic connectors, LED displays, lenses, and other optical components. It produces a Tg of 95°C (typical) and is moisture-resistant. The two-part, low-viscosity adhesive can be cured at room temperature overnight or in 15 minutes at 65°C.

The WTC3243 thermoelectric temperature controller has been designed on a stable ceramic substrate and measures 1.30 × 1.26 × 0.313 in. The unit is intended as an alternative to larger temperature controllers, offering the same heating and cooling capabilities. The WTC3243 can be operated using a laptop computer.

Scanning optical microscope

The Aurora-3 is a near-field scanning optical microscope (NSOM). It uses a patented tuning-fork technology. This technology simplifies alignment using a split light path allowing one to simultaneously view both transmission and reflection of the probe tip and sample.

The Digital BeamProfiler near-infrared imaging system includes an InGaAs array sensor of 30 × 30-æm pixels. The camera is a sensor head measuring 5.3 × 6.4 × 9.5 cm. The system includes profiling software and a 12-bit digital framegrabber card, and allows 2-D profiles for wavelengths from 900 to 1700 nm. The system can operate as a stand-alone tool or can be used with ActiveX or GPIB automation equipment for integration into automated manufacturing processes.

Red laser diode

The DL-LS1060 is a red laser diode that provides 50-mW cw (90-mW pulsed) power, combined with 70° operation in the 658-nm band. Available in a 5.6-mm package, the diode has a low threshold current of 35 mA, typical operating current of 80 mA, operating voltage of 2.7 V, differential efficiency of 1.1 mW/mA, and an operating temperature of -10°C to +70°C. Applications include use in DVD-R/RW and industrial integration.

PMF cable assemblies

EXACTune polarization-maintained fiberoptic (PMF) cable assemblies use a patented FC connector designed specifically to speed the alignment process of the fiber axis to the connector key. Precision-machined connector components and ferrules provide an angular accuracy within 1°, extinction ratios of up to 30 dB (or higher), and insertion loss of <0.3 dB (typical).

The NetLight NLT Series consists of small-form-factor (SFF) transceivers for developers of SONET/SDH-based optical-networking systems. The series covers transmission speeds from OC-3 (155 Mbit/s) to OC-48 (2.5 Gbit/s) at distances from 2 to 80 km. These transceivers are optimized for high-density, high-speed data transport in metropolitan and access networks.

Spectral-loss measurement system

The Agilent N4155A is a high-speed spectral-loss measurement system optimized for the production of fiber Bragg gratings, thin-film filters, and other optical components. The system measures absolute wavelength uncertainty ofñ1.0 pm at sweep speeds of 5 nm/s. A real-time sweep function is included for simplified alignment and filter testing.

Cantilever

The new Bio-Lever is a small, SiN, low-noise, short and soft cantilever with a low spring constant designed specifically for force measurements and soft samples by scanning probe/atomic microscopes. It can also be used for AC (noncontact) measurements in fluid. A unique "V" tip on the end allows accurate positioning over the sample. Both sides of the tip are gold-coated.

The TEC-A1LD is a low-noise TEC controller for use with both 3.3- and 5-V power supplies. The maximum output current is up to 2.5 A, with an efficiency of >90% at full load, withñ0.01°C temperature variation from the set point. Operating at a temperature range of -5°C to +85°C, the controller is available as a surface-mount 16-pin SMT or a DIP package.

The IMACON 540 is an x-ray streak camera for recording very fast transient events in laser fusion and plasma research. The ONYX32 is a multifunctional robotic platform for unique assembly applications including photonics, optoelectronics, and semiconductors. The system can automatically pick, align, and place any object within 1-æm accuracy. Quick-change end effectors provide dispensing and curing of glue and epoxy, convective reflow of eutectic compounds, and conductive reflow of laser diodes.

The M-10A black and white camera uses a 2/3-in. image CCD. It is equipped with a standard C-type lens, but is primarily designed for use with a microscope or image-processing equipment. Image sensors

New CIF-size CMOS image-sensor camera system-on-a-chip devices and stand-alone CID-size CMOS image sensors have been introduced. These low-power, low-cost sensors are designed specifically for low-power mobile devices such as cell phones, smart phones, and PDAs. Both sensors have CIF resolution (352 × 288), 1/7-in. optical format, up to 30-fps progressive scan, and an on-chip, 8-bit analog-to-digital converter.

UV enhancement process

A new process, which enhances UV sensitivity of CCD and PIN-type silicon detectors, has been developed. The process extends the usable spectral range of the detectors down to the deep UV by converting UV energy to visible energy that can easily be detected. The process can be performed on any size CCD or PIN diode.

Raman pump laser

The Optilock VR2e is a Raman pump laser. With 350-mW operating power, the laser effectively enables the replacement of a two-pump subsystem with a single pump. This allows for system simplification and the elimination of associated drive electronics and multiplexing optics. The laser incorporates a proprietary chip design and a unique chip material and is available in a standard 14-pin butterfly package.

The 610 Series data-logging optical-power meters store up to 1000 records in the instruments' nonvolatile memory. An RS232 port allows stored data to be printed or downloaded to a PC using Cercis TESTworx software. All instrument functions can be accessed through remote PC control. Line-scan camera

The Piranha2 is a small-footprint, 4k, 4-tap line-scan camera with a 160-MHz data rate. The camera offers resolutions of 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8k in two- or four-output models. All deliver 8 or 10 bits (selectable) of data with CDS and programmable flat-field correction at 40 MHz per tap. Applications include parcel and postal sorting, electronics manufacturing, and web inspection.

Fiberoptic receiver modules

The SRAP10 series incorporates a high-speed InGaAs photodiode with a low-noise FaAs HBT transimpedance amplifier in an 8-pin butterfly package for digital communications applications. The series conforms to SONET requirements for OC-192 (10-Gbit/s) receivers used in long-range, intermediate-range, and short-range applications.

The RS-5M is a color-tunable digital light-source system designed for photometric and radiometric calibrations and as a standard for verifying the performance of solid-state laser sources, photodiodes, imaging systems, and CCD/CMOS sensors and cameras. The system is an alternative to traditional methods of color calibration using tungsten lamps and filters. A tunable version is also available.
