Researchers from the SolidState Laser Institute at the Technical University of Berlin (Germany) developed a novel fourlam¥configuration that reportedly produces the highest average power (220 W) from a pulsed Ti:sapphire laser. Four xenon lamps from ILC Technology Inc. (Sunnyvale, CA) with large plasma surfaces were selected to optimize the flux around a 10 ¥ 152mm Ti:sapphire crystal (Union Carbide, Washougal, WA) doped at 0.1%. Total efficiency of 1.9% results from closecoupled and diffuse reflectors with improved light concentration.
