Photonics East to focus on products
Photonics East returns to Boston, MA, next month with a special emphasis on commercial product development. More than 5500 scientists and engineers are expected to attend Photonics East Expo, which blends the Northeast`s major exhibit on optics, lasers, optoelectronics, and related technologies with Electronic Imaging International, the premier East Coast trade show focusing on imaging components, subsystems, and applications.
The meeting will be held in conjunction with the Technology 2007 conference and exhibition (Sept. 22-24) and is designed to hel¥engineering professionals develo¥new products, uncover new markets, and stay abreast of emerging technologies. Product exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops, and tutorials will introduce an array of optical, electro-optic, and imaging technologies available for use in many applications including medicine, communications, electronics, and manufacturing.
Photonics East Expo presents a distinct technical program track on each day of the three-day event:
Monday will open with programs on optics and processing for imaging applications. Tutorials and courses will address digital image processing, charge-coupled-device camera systems, and optical system design.
Tuesday`s sessions will cover machine vision in aerospace and manufacturing applications. Courses focus on illumination requirements, laser-aided material processing, and artificial neural networks for automated inspection. Special programs focus on new applications of the Global Positioning System and developments in fiberoptic gyros
On Wednesday the focus will be photonics for biomedical applications. Courses and tutorials will cover digital x-ray imaging, lasers, and light-emitting diodes for biomedical applications, laser-tissue interaction, and fundamentals of photochemistry and photodynamic therapy.
At the core of Photonics East Expo are products including lasers and other light sources; optical fabrication and test equipment; high-speed imaging and sensing components; and instrumentation for biomedical, electronic, communication, and manufacturing applications, among others. More than 270 companies exhibited their products at Photonics East and Electronic Imaging International last year.
Technical conferences will return as part of Photonics East in 1998. The trade-show emphasis in alternate years is designed to allow scientists and engineers to focus specifically on new products and techniques available for their work.
