The Crown sports arena in Cincinnati, OH, will install the world`s first laser-powered, large-screen video system this month, the latest version of the ColorVision system designed and manufactured by the Corporation for Laser Optics Research (COLOR; Portsmouth, NH). Consisting of four 9 ¥ 12-ft center-hung multicolored screens, the laser system provides prealigned, pretested field-replaceable Nd:YAG green lasers that allow quick substitution in the event of failure. A strengthened optical system provides a doubling of the brightness, and a new user interface replaces manual turn-on/off and allows total remote system control. The system was offered at a discount to The Crown in exchange for use of the installed arena system for demonstration purposes.
