McPherson buys Space Optics Research Laboratory from Intergraph

Detector and spectro-analytical instrumentation manufacturer McPherson Inc. (Acton, MA) has purchased the Space Optics Research Laboratory (SORL) and optics manufacturing facility of Intergraph Corp. (Huntsville, AL) for an undisclosed sum. Located in Chelmsford, MA, the facility is being run as an independent division until the end of the McPherson fiscal year in April, at which time management will decide if SORL is to continue as a separate entity. According to McPherson CEO Ditmar Schoeffel, the laboratory will operate as it has in the past, though his company will take a larger role in mechanical development. Says Schoeffel, "[The acquisition] will reinforce the capabilities of the space optics facility significantly because we combine our long experience with instrumentation and manufacturing."
