    Connector manufacturer Augat Inc. (Mansfield, MA) had net income of $6.6 million for the first quarter of 1996 (ended March 31, 1996), an increase of 14% over 1995 figures. Sales for the period rose 8% from first-quarter 1995 to reach $145 million. The company has appointed former Harman International Industries chief financial officer (CFO) Gordon Bitter as vice president and CFO. . . . InterAmericas Communications Corp. (ICC, Coral Gables, FL) has acquired Peruvian telecommunications carrier Resetel SA for an undisclosed sum. Resetel is currently the only legal competitor of Peruvian telecom company Telefonica del Peru in the Lima and Callo metropolitan areas; the purchase affords ICC a foothold in current and future Peruvian long-distance markets. . . . The University of Rhode Island (Kingston, RI) named Optical Cable Corp. (Roanoke, VA) as fiberoptic-cable supplier for a 95-building campus network; the contract is worth more than $1.5 million.
