The third biennial European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO-Europe/EQEC) will be held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (Glasgow, Scotland) Sept. 14-18, 1998. The third biennial European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO-Europe/EQEC) will be held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (Glasgow, Scotland) Sept. 14-18, 1998. Preliminary estimates put at around 4000 the anticipated number of attendees, accompanied by 250 company exhibits in the trade-show hall. Alastair Wilson, head of the optoelectronics team at Scottish Enterprise, one of the sponsoring organizations, says, "There was considerable competition for this conference. The international reputation of the Scottish research base in optoelectronics and the Scottish Optoelectronics Association, combined with the support of a wide range of UK organizations, including the Institute of Physics and the Department of Trade and Industry, helped us to make a very persuasive case for the city."
