• EDO Electro-Optics will supply Earth sensors for communications satellite constellation

    Orbital Sciences Corporation (Dulles, VA) has awarded EDO Electro-Optics (College Point, NY) a $1 million follow-on contract to supply miniature, solid-state infrared Earth horizon sensors for ORBCOMM low-altitude satellites. The spacecraft provides two-way messaging and mobile data communications. The ultimate constellation will consist of 28 satellites, with another eight to be built as spares. The first two satellites began commercial service in February 1996.
