Under the two-year contract, SeaLite will develo¥its patented Stress-Optic for the Department of Defense for use in directed-energy concepts and in laser communications with and between orbiting satellites. The technology will be applied to reading two-dimensional "matrix" codes--next-generation barcodes. SeaLite CEO George Seaver said the company was also in negotiations with a private company to invest an additional $200,000 after the laser-steering technology has been partially developed. This would hel¥bring the technology to the level needed for the bar/matrix-code-reader market--an application that has a large growth potential for the company.
