Learning Channel traces laser development

Television viewers will have a chance to learn about the development of the laser when The Learning Channel premiers Super Laser, Oct. 5, at 10:00 pm EST, repeating at 1:00 am and on Oct. 11 at 5:00 pm, as part of its Science Frontiers programming block. Using newly declassified archive footage, the show allows viewers to witness the trials and tribulations of the first high-energy laser experiment against a moving target. It explores how these and other tests throughout the 1960s and 1970s laid the groundwork for the Star Wars defense initiative and how pioneering laser research brought new uses for lasers in the fields of surgery, welding, cutting, and holography.
