New York state optoelectronics industries to form association
The Photonics Industry Association of New York Inc. (PIANY) has been formed by companies and research institutions in New York to promote strategic alliances and collaborations among participants. Executive director and secretary Bud Hippisley from the New York Photonics Development Corp. (Rome, NY) says the new organization plans to offer programs and services that will help its members improve communications, reduce costs, gain easier access to capital, speed commercialization of university-based research, and help formulate industry standards. Geoffrey Burnham, president and CEO of Semiconductor Laser International (Binghamton, NY), is the newly elected chair; Michael Shimazu, vice president of Molecular Optoelectronics Corp. (Watervliet, NY), is vice chair; and Frank Giotto, president of Fiber Instrument Sales Inc. (Oriskany, NY), is treasurer.
