Coventor Offers Upgrade for MEMS Design Software

Nov. 16, 2001
Coventor has upgraded its Architect software for MEMS design. Utilizing a unique top-down design methodology, Architect is available as a tool for MEMS device designers and developers in the optical, RF and biotechnical industries.

Coventor has upgraded its CoventorWare Architect software for MEMS (micro electro mechanical systems) design to a 2001.3 version. Utilizing a unique top-down design methodology, Architect is available as a tool for MEMS device designers and developers in the optical, RF and biotechnical industries.

The upgraded software was shipped to all licensed customers in September and is now available for new license purchases.

CoventorWare 2001.3 includes significant new capabilities:

 3 New behavioral models - triangle plates, triangle electrodes, and 4 point stops - for designing mirrors, switches, and other devices from within Architect.

 New rectangular plate behavioral model with stress and stress gradient, for design of switches and other devices from within Architect.

 Active valve behavioral model for top-down design of microfluidic devices from within Architect.

 Beam behavioral model now supports buckling and stress gradients.

 Electro-mechanical behavioral models now support 3 mechanical layers, for creating devices supported by a wider range of fabrication processes.

 Meshing of angled sidewall structures and biasing mesh along different directions, allowing more robust analysis.

 Much faster (up to 500x) and more accurate squeeze film and slide damping analysis.

 MemDamping module rewrite allows easier meshing and set up as well as automatic macromodel extraction.

 MemCap now includes analysis of lossy dielectric behavior.

 Up to 10x increase in redraw speed of layout editor.
