PRESS RELEASE

Avantes introduces world's first broadband fiber optic cables

Apeldoorn – Avantes, a leading manufacturer of fiber optic spectroscopy instruments and systems, today announces the first truly versatile fibers. For the first time fiber optic cables can be used from 250 to 2500 nm. Available directly, this gives users the broad range of two fibers combined into one, without any loss of signal.

Until now, users of fiber optic cables had to choose between a fiber for lower wavelength ranges and those for the higher ranges. Now, Avantes introduces the broadband fiber, immediately eliminating this difficult choice and keeping stock levels minimized. From 250 to 2500 nanometers these fibers combine the throughput of the previous generation UV/VIS and VIS/NIR cables and perform even better.

As Benno Oderkerk, CEO and founder of Avantes, puts it: "With the previous fibers, changing them was easy in a standard setup. But when using a fiber optics cable inside a device, such as our Fiber Optic Multiplexer or Vacuum Feedthrough, you had to know beforehand exactly in which wavelenghts you were planning to measure. Not anymore: these broadband fibers are suitable no matter your setup."

The Avantes broadband fibers are available in all fiber optic assemblies, including reflection probes, dip probes and multi-furcated fiber optic assemblies. They are also available for customer specific designs.

Avantes is a world leader in the field of spectroscopy. They develop and manufacture spectrometers, light sources, software, fiber optic cables, and accessories. Avantes' products are highly customizable, adaptable to any specific application, and integrated into even the smallest housings. These products therefore find usage in many OEM applications and markets, as well as in the scientific and industrial world. With over 18 years of experience, Avantes continues to produce innovative applications in diverse fields including chemical, solar energy, agriculture, gemology, (bio)medical, semiconductor, light measurement and food processing technology.
