The SLM M4-704X512 nematic active-matrix liquid-crystal spatial light modulator functions as an electrically variable retarder, offering as many as 256 levels per pixel. The 704 ¥ 512-pixel array has a 20-µm pitch with 17.5-µm-square pixels and an active area of 14.08 ¥ 10.24 mm. The DK-4 Drive Electronics Module includes software for an IBM-PC-compatible computer to download patterns or images to the SLM via a parallel port or ISA bus.
