Low-cost desktop security system reads fingerprints
Unisys Corp. (Blue Bell, PA) has developed a fingerprint imaging system for security applications based on fingerprint extraction and matching algorithms developed by Identicator Technology (San Bruno, CA). To enter a system secured by Sp BioPin, the user places a finger on a scanner installed at the workstation. The system then compares this image against fingerprint data stored in a security database on the workstation or a central Windows NT server. The stand-alone Sp BioPin device and software list for $135. Integrated in a standard English language keyboard, it costs $174.
