Cambridge, MA and San Jose CA, January 28, 2004. Cambridge Technology is forming an exclusive partnership with Smart Move GmbH. The first product to come to market from this cooperation the patented Digital Control Center DC900 Series State Space DSP servo board for high performance galvanometer controlwill be shown at Photonics West.

With 5 years of dedicated Smart Move DSP State Space Servo technology R&Dand over 1 year of cooperation with Cambridge Technology, the DC900 Series DSP Platform brings galvanometer positioning speeds to levels well beyond the best commercial analog servos on the market.

Redmond P. Aylward, President of Cambridge Technology, announced, "We are very pleased with the results of our cooperation with Smart Move and the new DC900 DSP Platform for galvanometer control. Led by Randolf Hoche, Smart Move has commercialized galvanometer State Space DSP Servo technology and taken full performance advantage of our close cooperation in achieving high-speed high accuracy galvanometer control. Intimate galvo knowledge and cooperation is critical to achieving the full potential of State Space Servo technology. The resultant Smart Move State Space DSP technology coupled with Cambridge Technology's continued advances in high performance galvanometers and our manufacturing consistency have resulted in a major step forward in galvo system performance levels. State Space servo technology can achieve system speeds not possible with analog PID-based servo designs. This will enable our customers, particularly in laser marking, to achieve new performance levels and open up new higher speed applications. Higher speeds, self-tuning and long term stability are among our most critical OEM customer requirements and ultimately, all of our markets will benefit from this technology and the performance levels that can now be achieved."

Randolf Hoche, President of Smart Move reported "Our partnership with Cambridge Technology allows us to achieve the highest system performance levels and bring our patented technology to the largest base of galvanometer markets and customers with the industry leader in galvanometer technology. This tight coupling is critical to both our current performance levels and achieving the full potential of our technology. What we have achieved together so far is just the beginning of where we can take galvanometer system control in the future. "

Cambridge Technology, Inc. is a supplier of technology for closed loop, galvanometer based optical scanning components and supporting products. These products provide superior scanning performance to a wide variety of applications including laser marking, engraving, drilling, machining and treating, biomedical applications in ophthalmology, DNA sequencing and confocal microscopy, laser entertainment and projection, and any application where laser beam steering is required.
