Adept introduces laser bonding photonics assembly solution
Adept Technology Inc. (San Jose, CA) introduced a new laser welding system for fiberoptics manufacturing at this week's Fiberoptic Automation Expo in Chicago. The NanoBonder LWS system integrates precision motion control, machine vision, alignment stages, and weld process technologies designed to improve throughput and yields by reducing alignment and bonding cycle times.
The laser welding system features an industrial PC mated with the firm's AdeptWindow MV controller platform, with the result being an expandable and configurable controller hardware architecture. According to company management, the controller seamlessly synchronizes control of the fixe-axis alignment stage, two four-axis laser weld head positioning mechanisms, the machine vision system for guiding the positioning heads, and communications with both the laser welder and third-party instruments.
Adept also showcased its NanoBonder EBS epoxy bonding system for assembly alignment, bonding, and in-line testing of a variety of active and passive fiberoptic devices. In addition, it previewed a new nanopositioning stage called the NanoStage L3 linear module, which is designed for precision vision-guided assembly, dispensing, and test applications. The device consists of three motorized crossed roller bearing linear stages in an XYZ configuration. Each stage has a range of motion up to 28 mm with repeatability of 15 microns.
