Irvine, CA. February 25, 2003. Newport's new flexible, stable Pedestal Post System offers high flexibility and stability for ultra-stable mounting of optical mounts at low beam heights for precision opto-mechanical applications in a variety of laser and photonic research and scientific applications.

Pedestal posts can be used alone for stable fixed height mounting or add an extension post and/or spacers to create a post of any height to 0.125 in. (3.18 mm). This unique system uses slotted clamping forks so that pedestals can be secured anywhere on an optical table. Precision ground 1 in. (25.4 mm) diameter stainless steel posts maintain long-term optical system alignment, and are available in 0.5, 1, 2, 3, and 4 in. (12.7, 25.4, 50.8, 76.2, and 101.6 mm) heights. The ability to mount at low beam heights ensures highest stability.
Each post is marked with an index groove every 1 in. (25.4 mm) for a quick height reference. Cross-drilled holes allow 3/16 in. (5 mm) hex wrenches to aid in tightening and loosening assembled posts. The stainless steel clamping forks provide positioning flexibility and secure mounting for pedestal posts.

An 8-32 (M4) threaded hole on each end allows pedestal posts and post extenders to be attached together end-to-end using a set screw. In-between heights can be achieved by combining a pedestal post with a 0.5 in. (12.7 mm) high post and/or spacers, available in 0.125 and 0.25 in. (3.18 and 6.35 mm) heights. The PS-B-0.5 and PS-B-1 Pedestal Bases are useful for clamping VPH or VPT Series Post Holders or SP Series Posts anywhere on an optical table. They have a clearance hole in the bottom for a 1/4-20 (M6) screw. Pedestal Bases can also be used for turning TPS Series Posts into pedestals. SS-1-A thread adaptors convert any 1/4-20 (M6) hole into 8-32 (M4) mounting surfaces, adding 0.25 in. (6.35 mm) height. These are ideal for mounting components close to the table surface.

The PS-SC Sliding Clamp secures an optical mount at any position and angle along the length of the post. The combination of the Pedestal System's components allows not only stable mounting of optical mounts, but also building of complete component structures. Index marks provide quick height reference, and cross-drilled holes aid in tightening and loosening.
