A diode-pumped high-repetition-rate Nd:YAG laser is designed as an amplifier for increasing the effective power of material-processing lasers. The head can store u¥to 2 J of energy. The device includes 896 diode-laser bars and is capable of 44.8-kW peak output power. The drive pulsewidth of the arrays is 250 µs with an operational duty factor of u¥to 5%. The arrays are capable of u¥to a 15% duty cycle. The arrays double-side-pum¥a 6 ¥ 20-mm Nd:YAG slab that has a small-signal gain of 12 and can operate at repetition rates u¥to 200 Hz. The pum¥head is cooled by a recirculating water chiller.
