Die-to-Die Alignment Without an Operator Testing photonic devices on wafer means aligning a source and a detector to a die, moving to the next die and doing it again without a person touching the machine. The OEM building the tester needed six degrees of freedom for the alignment, high-dynamic motion to keep the alignment fast and tightly coordinated motion between the wafer stage and the probe stages. Modular stages supply the kinematic flexibility the alignment requires, with direct-drive servo motors whose move-and-settle exceeded the throughput target. A multi-axis controller coordinates every axis and holds nanometer-level accuracy and repeatability across full travel, down to 0.5 nm minimum incremental steps. Optical alignment algorithms ship ready to run, with support for custom development. Analog and digital interfaces with configurable fault thresholds bring in the sensors that keep the probes clear of the wafer.
