Fiber-laser pump module has high brilliance

July 21, 2009
Jenoptik has introduced the JOLD-50-FC-11, a fiber-coupled diode-laser module. The module is based on the coupling of several single emitters and achieves an optical output power of 50 W in continuous mode from a fiber with a core diameter of 105 microns and a numerical aperture of 0.15, thus having an especially high brilliance.

Cooling of the module is carried out passively through the base plate. An integrated filter protects against back reflection from the fiber-laser beam. It has a compact design of only 100 x 60 x 25 mm, and uses a low operating current of less than 10 amps.

Fiber-laser pump module with high brilliance

The highlight of the trade show LASER 2009 for the Diode Lasers business unit of Jenoptik's Lasers & Material Processing division was an innovative fiber-coupled diode laser module known as JOLD-50-FC-11. It is based on the coupling of several single emitters and achieves an optical output power of 50 watts in continuous mode from a fiber with a core diameter of 105 µm and a numerical aperture of 0.15, thus having an especially high brilliance.

The main areas of application of the single emitter fiber-coupling are optical pumping of fiber lasers and direct material processing. This module is characterized by a high level of robustness and easy handling. The cooling of this diode-laser module is carried out passively through the base plate. Another feature of this newly developed product is an integrated filter that protects against back reflection from the fiber laser beam.

Besides its compact design of only 100 x 60 x 25 mm, the low operating current of less than 10 amps is another advantage of the diode laser module. The start of series production is planned for the third quarter of 2009.
