Syracuse, NY--US Optical signed an agreement with PixelOptics (Roanoke, VA) to manufacture emPower!, PixelOptics' patented electronic eyeglass lenses, starting with the launch of the US Southeast region around April 4, 2011. emPower! Is the world's first electronic auto-focusing eyewear to focus as fast as the blink of an eye using patented technology comprised of composite lenses with a thin LCD-like transparent layer, microchips, micro-machine accelerometers, and miniature rechargeable batteries. It providesvision correction for all ranges of sight: far, near, and in between.

emPower! offers three modes of operation: automatic, manual on and manual off. It also provides an electronic invisible near reading zone when desired with the ability to turn the reading power electronically on and off. It is the latest innovation for consumers suffering from presbyopia, a condition where the eye exhibits a progressively diminished ability to focus on near objects with age. Consumers will be able to purchase emPower! from US Optical's customers, the Eye care professionals, located in the Southeastern US region starting in April 2011. emPower! will be available in other regions later in 2011.

A new category of eyeglasses has been created with empower! called Intelligent
Eyewear. Intelligent eyewear could revolutionize the optical eyewear industry in the next five years. US optical is a natural partner for Pixel Optics. "We focus on new technology, High Definition lenses and a business model that executes the delivery of new technology efficiently and in a timely manner to the consumer through eye care professionals..." says Robert Cotran, president of US Optical. " ... emPower! is an amazing invention that will change the eyewear industry just like the iPhone changed the mobile phone industry! ... These are exciting times in the evolution of eyeglasses."
