    PRESS RELEASE

A MORE DURABLE METALLIZED SAPPHIRE WINDOW DEVELOPED BY GUILD OPTICAL ASSOCIATES

Guild Optics finds a way for metallized endoscopic optics to better withstand today’s harsh sterilization techniques.

For years, metallized sapphire windows have stayed the same while autoclave technology was growing at leaps and bounds. Now, autoclaves and chemical sterilization units are so advanced, that they are eating away at the common metallization used to adhere the sapphire windows to their endoscopic housings. This is a problem that did not escape the eyes of Guild Optical Associates.

Guild Optics recognized a need from their endoscopic customer base, collaborated toward a solution, and delivered a new, more durable metallization. Their new solderable sapphire window can better withstand the harshest of autoclaves, as well as the new chemical and plasma sanitization systems.

Guild Optics’ metallized sapphire windows are not just limited to the endoscopic industry. In addition to being more durable, the metallization has a higher stress and shock tolerance making them ideal for all hermetic brazing applications. Efforts to improve the inferior metallization resulted in a reformed metallic combination that is coated on the edges of their sapphire optics. This new metalized optic can be utilized in its application the same way current optics are soldered or brazed into place. Cost and quality stay the same; the only difference is improved durability.
