PRESS RELEASE

NEW PITCH POLISHING SLURRY FOR OPTICAL APPLICATIONS FROM ENGIS

Superabrasives specialist Engis has announced the launch of its newly engineered non-agglomating diamond slurry, specifically designed for pitch polishing applications, including the lapping and polishing of precision optical materials and components such as proof flats, etalons, prisms, windows, ring laser gyroscope blanks.

The final polishing of these and similar components is often achieved by using a pitch polishing slurry. This is because pitch, despite being a complex material, is able to transfer minimum load to the polishing media, resulting in superior sub-nanometer surface roughness, which is not obtainable through other polishing techniques.

The benefits of Engis new Hyprez pitch polishing slurry include its faster cutting and polishing rates, the availability of a wide range of diamond particle sizes and the creation of minimal waste compared to conventional processes In addition, the Hyprez slurry will not chemically degrade the pitch and is easy to clean from the components and the system.
