Southampton, UK, March 28, 2003. Following rigorous independent assessment, SPI (Southampton Photonics) has achieved registration to ISO 9001:2000 for the design, development and manufacture of optical components and sub-systems. This prestigious award for quality is recognized worldwide and demonstrates SPI's ongoing commitment to an organization-wide quality management system conforming to ISO's stringent requirements.

SPI's quality system was assessed against the requirements of the standard by National Quality Assurance (NQA). During the assessment, NQA examined SPI's business processes, documents, data and records, interviewed employees and observed actual work practices at SPI's state-of-the-art (40,000 sq ft) manufacturing and research and development facilities in Southampton, UK. SPI supports its quality system with management commitment, resources, integrated systems infrastructure, and measurement, analysis and improvement processes.

"ISO registration is another important milestone in SPI's history, and recognises the commitment of our team to implement management systems delivering quality excellence to our customers in our products, services and operations" , said Steve Norman, vice president of operations and engineering.
