The combined companies' industry expertise in the fields of nanotechnology, photonics, and silicon chemistry will speed the development of photonic crystal optical devices

Midland, MI and Fremont, CA, June 6, 2002 -- Dow Corning Corp. and NeoPhotonics Corp. have formed a strategic partnership to develop the next generation of photonic crystal technology. The combined companies' industry expertise in the fields of nanotechnology, photonics, and silicon chemistry will speed the development of photonic crystal optical devices. The companies intend to commercialize this technology in devices for optical telecommunications as well as in other potential applications.

This financial and scientific partnership will enable both companies to develop technologies that will lead to manufacturing and commercialization of world-class photonic crystal based optical components, serving the optics and telecommunications markets.
