Hughes Danbury Optical Systems downsizes after AXAF completion

Hughes Danbury Optical Systems (Danbury, CT) recently underwent a 5% decrease in staffing when 45 employees were laid off at the facility. Officials cite the successful early completion of the Advanced X-ray Astrophysics Facility (AXAF) mirror-fabrication project and an increasingly competitive market as causes for the reduction. Hughes Aircraft Company (El Segundo, CA), the HDOS parent company, anticipates a 1995 corporation-wide layoff of roughly 7% of the total work force.
