NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (Huntsville, AL) awarded a Phase II SBIR contract worth more than $350,000 to Barr Associates Inc. (Westford, MA) to develo¥a manufacturing process to produce large-area very-narrow-bandpass filters of high spectral uniformity. Currently, these thin-film optical-interference filters can be made using thermally stable materials, but techniques suffer from uniformity problems over the area of the filter. A process that increases spectral uniformity should allow higher yields for filters as well as the ability to make filters with larger apertures.
